DESCRIPTION:23-24 March - Rare Plant Monitoring & Invasive Species Workshop - Livingston Polk County Chamber of Commerce - The Invaders of Texas has teamed up with the National Forest Foundation and the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas to offer a new kind of citizen science workshop\, expanding on the Invaders of Texas model by adding a rare plant monitoring component. Day 1 wil be in the classroom and Day 2 will be in the field at the Angelina National Forest. Please contact Minnette Marr for more information or to register for the workshop. Citizen Science Workshops - mmarr@wildflower.org\n\n\n\nNational Forests and Grasslands\n\nLocation: Livingston-Polk County Chamber of Commerce\, 1001 US Hwy 59 Loop North (Livingston\, Texas)\n\nTrainer(s): Minnette Marr\n\nTime: 9am-4pm\n\nNotes: This will be a two-day workshop. Day 1 will be in the classroom and Day 2 will be in the field at the Angelina National Forest. Please bring GPS and digital camera if available. Please bring a sack lunch.\n\nLocal Host: National Forests and Grasslands of Texas/LBJ Wildflower Center\n\n\n\nThe NFF workshops include an introduction to monitoring the rare plants in the national forests. Thomas Philipps (USFS) will share a PowerPoint presentation about the sensitive areas and the rare plants associated with them. Minnette Marr will introduce the monitoring form used to document the rare species in the Texas Natural Diversity database.\n\n\n\nThe second day of the workshop will be in the Angelina National Forest from 10am-3pm. The field trip will include practice monitoring an invasive species\, practice monitoring a model rare species (survey flags)\, and a visit to a sensitive area. Thomas will decide the exact location for the field trip.
